To enjoy secure online services with e-Cert on smart ID card, you need a smart card reader and associated software. It is easy to start in three steps below.
1. Purchase a compatible smart card reader
2. Install smart card reader and software
All smart card readers purchased from Hongkong Post will contain an installation CD. Just follow the instructions and install necessary software.
If you do not have the CD, you can still download the necessary software for using e-Cert on smart ID card here.
3. Import e-Cert into Internet browser (I.E.)
If you have got an e-Cert on floppy disk/e-Cert File Card, you can choose to import the e-Cert into the Internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer (I.E.) of your PC for easy access to many online services. Many online services also accept the usage of e-Cert stored in Internet browsers.
A new tool is introduced to help you easily and conveniently import the e-Cert on floppy disk to I.E. certificate store with a few clicks. If you are using Netscape, please download the user guide for installation procedures.
For subscribers using e-Cert File Card, please refer to e-Cert File Card page for installation guides and user guides.
However, you are not advised to import your e-Cert on floppy disk/e-Cert File Card into the Internet browsers of public computers. The action will copy and store your e-Cert including private key there. Although unauthorized usage without your e-Cert password is not easily possible, such an act will increase the possible risk of Internet frauds.

If you do not have computer facilities at home, you can visit public computer facilities equipped with smart card readers to use your e-Cert on smart ID card for various online services. These public computer facilities are located in the following premises:
