Launch of enhanced e-Cert (Server) with new features – "Wildcard" & "Multi-domain"

For continuous service improvement and to meet the demand for server certificates, starting from 15 May 2013, Hongkong Post Certification Authority offers two optional enhanced features of e-Cert (Server) - "Wildcard" and "Multi-domain".

e-Cert (Server) with "Wildcard" feature enables the use of the certificate for all server names at the same domain or sub-domain level owned by the Subscriber Organisation by specifying a wildcard character (i.e. an asterisk character ‘*’) in the left-most component of the server name in the certificate. For example, an e-Cert (Server) with "Wildcard" feature issued to *.hongkongpost.gov.hk may be used for all server names with the same domain name hongkongpost.gov.hk, such as:

  • hongkongpost.gov.hk
  • mail.hongkongpost.gov.hk
  • e-cert.hongkongpost.gov.hk

e-Cert (Server) with "Multi-domain" feature enables the use of the certificate for identifying up to 50 server names owned by the Subscriber Organisation. The server names may be of different domain names owned by the Subscriber Organisation. For example, an e-Cert (Server) with "Multi-domain" feature may identify the following server names under different domains:

Both e-Cert (Server) with "Wildcard" feature and e-Cert (Server) with "Multi-domain" feature have a maximum validity of three years and with "digital signature" Key Usage enabled. The enhanced e-Cert (Server) with new features facilitates more effective management and convenient use of the e-Cert (Server) by the Subscriber Organisation.

The application procedures for e-Cert (Server) with "Wildcard" feature and e-Cert (Server) with "Multi-domain" feature are the same as the current procedure for e-Cert (Server). Interested applicants may fill in the "Application Form for Hongkong Post e-Cert (Organisational / Encipherment / Server) Certificate (CPos 798F)" to apply for e-Cert (Server), e-Cert (Server) with "Wildcard" feature or e-Cert (Server) with "Multi-domain" feature. For details about e-Cert (Server), please refer to the relevant web pages of e-Cert (Server).
